HC Energie Karlovy Vary playing in Czech Extraliga – the highest tier of Czech hockey – has taken a significant step forward in the way it manages player development. The club shifted its entire workflow into XPS – from daily coaching tasks to long-term athlete monitoring, creating a single digital environment that connects all departments. What used to be scattered across notebooks, files, and personal systems now lives in one place and follows the same structure for every player.
Watch the latest XPS Stories episode below.
When the coaching staff talks about the transition, the first thing they mention is how everything has finally come together. Head Coach Pavel Patera describes the change simply by saying, “It allows us to have all the data together in one place.” Instead of each coach keeping their own notes or working with isolated files, everyone now shares the same information – updated, consistent, and easy to search.

Goalie Coach Lukáš Mensator works with XPS every day. He uploads all his goalie sessions into the system over the course of the season and says, “I save every training session in there, and I can always go back and review anything I need.” The digital archive gives him a complete record of his work, helping him spot patterns, revisit details, and talk to his goalies using clear, accurate information.
Shared visibility quickly became a key part of their routine. As Mensator puts it, “Anyone at the club can access it, and we can share the information easily.” With everyone looking at the same data, the coaching staff, S&C team, and management stay aligned without needing to chase information across different places.

Strength & Conditioning Coach Marek Halamka adds that physical testing also became more transparent for the entire staff: “For me, the key benefit is how clearly we can view the physical test results and instantly compare all players through graphs in XPS Reports.”
The central tool for monitoring development is the Player Card, part of the club’s XPS Reports system. It brings together everything the staff needs: basic player details, fitness testing history, individual goals, coach evaluations, and player self-assessment.
According to Director of Hockey Operations Benjamin Sequens, this is one of the three main areas where the club relies on XPS every day:
These three areas form the backbone of Karlovy Vary’s digital structure. Sequens explains that the Player Card becomes truly valuable once the fitness benchmarks are added. He says, “Probably the most important thing for us is using the Calculated Test to establish benchmarks for each player, so we can see where they currently stand in terms of fitness, strength, and explosiveness.” With each new test, the benchmark updates automatically, and the club can immediately see how players are progressing.

The historical view adds even more context. As Sequens explains, “We can view this data historically, which allows us to track how the player develops over the current season and over several years.” For a club focused on long-term development, this makes the Player Card a simple but powerful tool.
Coaches and players use the same space during seasonal meetings. Players complete a self-assessment, coaches outline expectations, and the head coach and S&C coach both record their evaluations. Role clarity, physical readiness, strengths, weaknesses, and goals all stay inside the Player Card – easy to find and easy to update.

Karlovy Vary also uses XPS Reports for communication with management and ownership. Sequens explains that the system plays an important role here: “This card is used mainly by coaches as feedback, and also for reporting to senior management and the club owner, so they have a continuous overview of how each player is being developed.”
At the end of the season, this structure gives the staff a clear view of their work. Instead of relying on memory or scattered notes, they have a year-long record of testing, training, goals, and evaluations. As Sequens puts it, “At the end of the season, we can review each player and give feedback on what went well in our work with them and what didn’t.”
By bringing the entire process into one system, HC Energie Karlovy Vary has created a consistent and transparent way to follow every player – from daily sessions all the way to multi-year development.
