A new connection brings KINEXON Sports player-tracking data into customizable XPS Reports, allowing coaches, performance staff and sports directors to access tracking data alongside the information they already use in XPS.

Sideline Sports and KINEXON Sports are pleased to announce a new API integration designed to connect athlete tracking with the wider coaching and athlete management workflow.

For clubs using both platforms, KINEXON Sports data can now be displayed in XPS Reports alongside the information teams already collect and use in XPS. The result is less time spent moving between systems and a more complete view of each athlete, session and team.

Bringing performance data into the daily workflow

KINEXON Sports provides real-time athlete tracking and performance technology for indoor and outdoor sports. Its solutions use technologies including GPS/GNSS, ultra-wideband local positioning and inertial sensors to capture movement and workload data across training and competition.

Through the integration, this data can now be accessed within XPS, where coaching and performance staff already plan, monitor and evaluate training.

“Performance organizations increasingly expect their technologies to work together seamlessly. By integrating KINEXON Sports with XPS, we’re making it easier for coaches and performance practitioners to combine tracking data with their daily planning and athlete management workflows. This helps teams spend less time managing data and makes relevant performance information available within their existing processes.” – Michael Elmer, Sports Science Consultant at KINEXON Sports

Turning KINEXON Sports data into useful XPS Reports

Through the API, clubs can integrate a wide range of KINEXON Sports metrics into XPS Reports and select the information relevant to their own performance questions.

Volume and intensity

Coaches can follow total distance, total session time, distance per minute and other work-rate indicators. Speed data can include maximum and average speed, sprint distance, sprint count, time and distance in speed zones, and high-intensity efforts.

Movement and load

Reports can also show acceleration and deceleration counts, maximum acceleration and deceleration, Accumulated Acceleration Load per minute, player load, mechanical load, jump height, jump count and jump load.

Because XPS Reports are customizable, each club decides which metrics matter, how they should be presented and who needs to see them. Performance staff can work with detailed individual views, while coaches and directors can use clear team-level summaries. The same information can be reviewed by athlete, position, unit, session, match or selected time period.

Objective and subjective data, side by side

The benefit is not simply having more numbers, but being able to put those numbers into context.

In XPS, KINEXON Sports tracking data can be compared with subjective information collected through athlete forms, including readiness, wellness, sleep, soreness, perceived training load and session RPE. Staff can see what happened physically and compare it with how the athlete says they feel.

That comparison can add context to conversations and performance decisions. Did a demanding session feel as hard as the external load suggests? Is an athlete reporting low readiness while high-intensity work remains elevated? Is a returning player progressing toward the demands of full training and competition? XPS gives staff a practical place to explore these questions and follow the picture over time.

“The real value of performance data comes when it becomes part of the coach’s daily process. By bringing KINEXON Sports data into XPS Reports, clubs can connect objective tracking with athlete feedback, planning and communication in one workflow, and turn information into decisions more quickly.” – Agust Thorkelsson, Founder and CEO of Sideline Sports

A club’s perspective: Göppingen

At FRISCH AUF! Göppingen playing in the Handball Bundesliga, Dieter Bubeck, scientific advisor for athletic training, uses the KINEXON–XPS connection to handle the sheer scale of data a modern coaching staff faces. “With 18 or more players, approximately 30 training sessions, and at least 4 games, a coach must meticulously track and recall nearly 700 training performances for all players every month,” he says.

That scale is why the club leans on evidence-driven training research, including Randers et al.’s 2024 study on positional match demands in elite handball and García-Sánchez et al.’s 2023 systematic review of physical demands in elite handball. For Göppingen, monitoring provides a way to follow player development over time.

Alongside data from Garmin wearables, Göppingen brings KINEXON PERFORM-LPS and PERFORM IMU real-time tracking data into XPS through the API. This gives the coaching staff one environment in which to review physiological and movement data across players, training sessions and matches. Göppingen uses customizable dashboards to organize this information according to the needs of different roles within the performance team.

“We create individual-designed dashboards that offer a comprehensive view of a player’s performance in training and matches, along with contextual metrics that support evidence-based and more informed coaching decisions.”

KINEXON Sports data available to the club includes metrics such as running distance, velocity, acceleration and deceleration, Accumulated Acceleration Load and, when a compatible heart-rate sensor is connected, heart-rate data.

Paired with the subjective information from readiness questionnaires and Garmin’s player performance and health data, this provides additional context for each player and the team as a whole across the time periods relevant to the coaching staff.

“What we can continuously and comprehensively monitor, we can understand. By understanding the monitored aspects, we can make targeted improvements and effectively manage them,” Bubeck summarizes.

One connected view for the whole performance team

XPS Network is a coaching platform built to bring planning, monitoring, analysis and communication together. The KINEXON Sports integration adds athlete-tracking data to that existing workflow.

For coaches, that means faster access to the information that can inform training. For performance and medical staff, it provides additional context around workload, athlete response and return-to-play progress. For sports and technical directors, it means more consistent reporting across teams and departments.

The partnership reflects a shared goal: helping sports organizations build a connected performance environment without adding unnecessary complexity.

FAQ

What does the XPS–KINEXON integration do?

It connects KINEXON Sports player-tracking data to XPS Reports via API, so clubs using both platforms see tracking data alongside the information they already use in XPS.

Which KINEXON metrics can show up in XPS Reports?

Distance, speed, sprint count/distance, acceleration/deceleration, Accumulated Acceleration Load, player load, mechanical load, jump height/count/load, and heart rate when a compatible sensor is connected.

Does this replace the subjective athlete-form data in XPS?

No. It’s designed to sit alongside it, readiness, wellness, sleep, soreness, RPE, so staff can compare objective load with how the athlete says they feel.

Do we need to already use both platforms?

Yes, the integration is for clubs already using both XPS Network and KINEXON Sports.

Can we choose which metrics we see?

Yes. XPS Reports are customizable, so each club picks the metrics, the presentation and who sees them.

How do we get this set up?

Contact your XPS or KINEXON Sports representative to discuss setup and reporting needs.
