The global pandemic has had a drastic impact on the world of sport, especially the youth. Swedish Bandy Association looked for ways to help young athletes keep on training during the pandemic and with help of the XPS app came up with a solution – “Inspirationlandslaget“.
In December last year, gyms were closed and only kids under the age of 16 years were allowed to train under strict restrictions. “Per Anders Gustafsson, the SBA chairman, felt that something had to be done so we started to think about an alternative for the youth athletes to be able to keep on training,” says Johan Ganebro, who also works as a teacher at the bandy high school in Västerås.
Johan is an expert XPS user and especially during times of online education the XPS mobile app became very useful for him. He started to generate trainings for both his students and players at Västerås SK via the XPS app and by Christmas he had 126 signed-up athletes for the Inspirationlandslaget project.

“The Drills & Exercises Collection in the XPS app makes it possible for the athletes to choose from four training sessions – one physiotherapy, one for skating technique on ice, one for stick technique on ice and one for stick technique with no ice,” says Johan Ganebro. “The idea was that all the young athletes between the age of 12 and 19 who wanted to get their own Inspirationlandslaget account could register completely for free and choose their preferred workout and train at home, their garage driveway or on an outdoor ice rink.”
Every time Johan creates a new workout with illustrated videos, all the athletes receive a notification on their phones. After completing the session the players mark it in the app and after successfully passing a certain number of sessions they receive a “Jag är med i Inspirationslandslaget” t-shirt as an encouragement for their effort.
Even though Inspirationslandslaget project was started mainly as a reaction to the current pandemic situation, Johan already sees potential and development opportunities to meet young people digitally in the future as well.
It’s inspiring to see XPS put to such good use. Good luck from everyone at Sideline Sports!
