Swiss Unihockey is taking a major leap forward in digital transformation by implementing XPS Network across its national and club-level operations. The project is set to involve all 39 National League clubs active in elite and youth development, bringing more than 1,000 coaches across Switzerland onto the platform.
The integration of XPS is part of a broader vision to modernize how Swiss Unihockey manages training, communication, and long-term player development. “Over time, we generate an enormous amount of data and a lot of expertise about our players. We want to store this expertise centrally and make it available to everyone. XPS is the ideal partner for us,” says Reto Balmer, Head of Sports Development at Swiss Unihockey.
At the core of this transition is Lukas Schüepp, Verantwortlicher Nachwuchs (Head of Youth Development), who has overseen the rollout process. The implementation was carefully designed in a series of meetings with Sideline Sports representatives, where goals and workflows were aligned with the federation’s daily needs. The process is now being supported closely by Michal Rybka – Sideline Sports Country Manager for Switzerland, ensuring smooth onboarding and long-term sustainability.
One of the most immediate benefits is enhanced communication between national team coaches and club teams. “XPS enables our national coaches to communicate smoothly with the clubs and share training plans and athlete data,” Schüepp explains. This not only improves day-to-day collaboration but builds a much-needed bridge between national and grassroots development.
The platform also tackles one of the federation’s longstanding challenges – systematic and digital management of athlete data. “Now, both we and the clubs can manage and share athlete data in an organized, digital way – easily and efficiently with the athletes and with each other,” says Schüepp. This centralized approach strengthens accountability, coordination, and player tracking at every stage.
Swiss Unihockey plans to leverage the platform fully across both junior and senior national teams, using it for training planning, feedback collection, and direct communication with club coaches. In addition, XPS will support the selection and evaluation process for U17 and U19 national teams, making the process more structured and data-informed. “We want to use the platform in the future to manage player nominations for these national selections. It also supports a more structured and transparent player evaluation process,” says Schüepp.
The move toward digitalization goes beyond performance sport. As Sven Körner, Head of Digitalisation & Innovation at Swiss Unihockey, explains: “With XPS, we get a software with which we can ideally network with our partner organisations—clubs, cantonal selections, and regional performance centres. This will enable us to digitalise our athlete training processes on an ongoing basis. We will use XPS in competitive sport in particular to ensure the networked support of athletes.”
Swiss Unihockey’s ambitions reach across both elite and grassroots levels. Swiss teams regularly compete for medals on the international stage, both at national team level and in European club competitions. Meanwhile, the federation remains committed to nurturing the joy of fair play and fostering the sustainable development of the sport at all levels.
As Schüepp sums it up: “The introduction of XPS is a major step forward in the digitalization of athlete support in Swiss floorball.” With XPS now becoming a central platform for collaboration, communication, and development, Swiss Unihockey is not only embracing digital tools – it’s shaping a new, connected future for floorball in Switzerland.
