In March 2016, the soccer club SK Brann invested in XPS Network for its youth academy. Eight months later we traveled to Bergen in Norway in order to find out how the first period of time with XPS had been.[/vc_column_text][vc_video link=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H8PbaeBUs5k” el_width=”90″ align=”center”][vc_column_text]SK Brann is the largest and one of the most successful soccer clubs of all time in Norway. In 2007 the club started up its new youth academy and has since that time fostered a number of players. Many of them have later moved on to other top clubs in Norway and abroad. In 2016, the First Team ended in second place in “Tippeligaen”, Norway’s top soccer division.

Brann’s Challenge

Development of talents is an important part of Brann’s strategy, and to be able to develop good football players, skilled and educated coaches are required. In March 2016 Icelander Magni Fannberg was hired as the new Head of Youth Development.

Brann’s Sports Director Rune Soltvedt: “Fannberg will in many ways serve as the coach of the coaches in the youth academy. The intention is not for it to be an administrative job, instead it should be seen as a role where he is operating on the ground to create success and find the path of development in our work”.

Magni’s role as a “guide” for the other coaches undoubtedly requires a lot from himself. First and foremost, a good structure and organization, with clear goals and guidelines for the team’s training and playing style, from the younger teams up to the seniors.

“As the Head of Youth Development, it’s impossible for me to watch all the team’s matches and training sessions. It is therefore important to be able to easily see what the team coaches have done, in order for me to have enough information for next meeting with each and one of the coaches”, says Magni.

How does Sideline XPS help?

“It is important for us to be more consistent in our development throughout the entire organization. Sideline XPS is fundamental in our efforts to reach this goal” says Kristian Andersen, coach for one of the youth teams.

The long-term work in the XPS has only just begun, but the coaches and players have quickly embraced many aspects of the system and has already become skilled users. Brann has set up an internal match server to be able to share each other’s matches and video analysis.

Every training session is planned in the XPS calendar in order to be available for the coaches and the players but also for it to be used for analysis, statistics and meetings. The physical part has also been built up, so the physios are able to effectively work with the players on an individual level. One example is the players’ test results, which goes into the system and are the basis for personalized training programs.
